Happy Sunday purples!

I hope you have had a lovely weekend. I have had a busy one, but it has been productive so that is great.  Sorry I didn’t have a “Pearl of Wisdom” for you last week.  I plain ran out of time and I know you missed it dreadfully…..didn’t you?!!  Anyway, just in case you did actually miss me last week, I decided to write it in the morning today rather than leave it to the last minute and run out of time again!

My week previous to the weekend wasn’t as productive as I wanted it to be and that is what I want to talk about today. I know we all suffer from this from time to time.  Sometimes we get so caught up in life and what is going on around us that we lose sight of what we are trying to accomplish.  I know I also have the problem like so many others that I try to fit too much in.  Yes, it is all important stuff, but there are only so many hours in a day and as much as we wish we did, we don’t have super powers and we also need at least a little bit of sleep!

Sometimes a reason why we try to cram so much into our daily lives is because we want to do things for ourselves, but we also want to do things for others. I know some of the stuff that I am going to have to cull is for this reason.  Wanting to help others is great and the world is definitely a better place for it.  It would be a pretty crappy world to live in if we didn’t help others or do for others when we can, but as with everything, we have to find the right balance.  It can have massive consequences if we don’t…..I got to over 180kg because I did so much for the people I loved in my life and didn’t do enough for the most important person – me!  The person I should have loved the most!  I know that that is the very extreme of the scale, but I use it because I want to highlight just how important this is.  YOU are important.  What YOU want is important.  Your goals, whether they be health and fitness related, financial, spiritual, etc, etc, etc are IMPORTANT!

The other thing to remember is that quite often by doing for ourselves, we are also making the world a better place for others anyway. Such as when we take time out for our health and fitness, we are making sure that we are not only physically here in the first place, but also actually healthy enough to take care of our family and loved ones in the way that we want to.  You can’t look after anyone if you haven’t taken care of your own needs first.  Think about when they do the oxygen mask demo before take off on a flight and they tell people with children to make sure that they fit their own mask first.  Why?  Because you have to help yourself first in order to be capable of helping your children.  I have had quite a few mothers over the years – and I was one of them – say to me that they felt guilty for leaving their children to go out and exercise.  I tell them that they shouldn’t.  If they want to be the best parent that they can be, then the best thing they can do is take that time out for themselves which is also for their children in the long run.  By exercising they are making themselves healthier and will be a better parent because of it.  They will be able to do more with their children, they will be able to take better care of their children and they will also be teaching their children about health and fitness by example.  We all know that actions speak much louder than words!  I guess it is about realizing when it is right to make a sacrifice for our loved ones or whether what we are deciding to sacrifice is something that we really shouldn’t be sacrificing.  It might seem better in the short term, but in the long term it could have some unforeseen negative consequences.

My next task for today after I write this will be to sit down and plan my schedule for the week ahead. I have learnt many things over the course of my journey, but one of the most important is that I must not feel guilty for making myself a priority, and that is what I will be doing when I do my schedule.  I know that by doing that now, I will be able to help a lot more people much sooner and that will make me the happiest person in the world!

Have a great week everyone!!
