Happy Sunday purples!

I hope you have all had a great week. I sure have and there is a beautiful Gold Coast day out there today to end it with!  What more could we ask for?!!

The subject of today’s blog came to me through a memory that one of my friends shared on Facebook this morning. It was the first thing I saw when I opened up my Facebook while eating my brekky and it really was a blast from the past!  We have a footy tipping competition at work every year which ends with a party at the end of the season.  The memory my friend shared this morning was from our footy party way back in 2011.  I looked at the photos and I saw a person I didn’t recognize.  I showed my daughter and she didn’t recognize the person either.  The interesting thing about that, is that we were looking at photos of me from 5 years ago!  My daughter said she doesn’t recognize that person in the photo as me, even though that is how I was for most of her life.  The person she sees now is so different in so many ways, not only physically, that it is hard for either of us to identify with the person in those photos from 5 years ago.

This morning I took a little step back in time and remembered that on that particular night, I was feeling pretty happy. I had been on my weight loss journey for a while at that point and at my weigh in the day before, I had lost 39.6kg from my official recorded starting weight.  I was on a high and it was an awesome night which I thoroughly enjoyed because I was already feeling so much better about myself.  I looked back on those photos this morning and I realised just how far I have come.  It was an awesome reminder to have and I think I really needed it without realizing it.  Sometimes we get so fixated on where we want to get to and stress about not getting there for whatever reason, that we forget about where we have come from.  Quite often the best motivation can come from reminding ourselves and celebrating how far we have come in the first place, rather than being frustrated because we are not at our end goal.

When you think about it, most of us are always going to have a goal to work towards. That is what life is all about.  You set yourself a goal, work towards it, achieve it, set yourself another goal and the process starts again.  Sometimes it just takes a lot longer to get to a particular goal than it does to some others, especially if it is a more challenging one.  Those are the ones  where we need to take stock and remember where we have come from and use that as inspiration to keep going when the going gets tough.  I remind myself every day that as much as it is hard work sometimes, it will all be worth it in the end.  It didn’t take me 5 minutes to lose 100kg and it is not going to take me 5 minutes to get to my next goal, but I DID lose all that weight and I WILL get to my next goal and the one after that and the one after that, as long as I keep going!  So, remember how far you have come.  Celebrate and congratulate yourself for what you have done already and remind yourself that you CAN do whatever you tell yourself you can, as long as you just keep going!!

Have a great week everyone!!
