Happy Monday!

I know I don’t usually write my blog on a Monday, but I was so exhausted by the time I got home yesterday afternoon that I took the night off and since today is a public holiday in Queensland, I figured today was still a good day to write it.

The topic of my blog today is about special occasions and how we deal with that when it comes to food and drink.  I tell all of my clients that it is ok to have treats from time to time.  It is totally unrealistic to entertain the idea of never eating or drinking anything naughty for the rest of your life.  The important thing is that treats are sometimes, as opposed to all the time.  So if you have a special occasion coming up, most times I suggest to my clients to plan and prepare for it.  By this, I mean that for the week leading up to the event you should make sure that you stick 100% to your nutrition and exercise plan and especially the day before, of, and the day after the event.  When the event comes, enjoy yourself!  If you have been making good progress with your health goals, then one event is not going to undo all your hard work.  You might take 1 or 2 steps back, but that is going to happen from time to time anyway.  So plan for it, enjoy yourself and then get back on track.

As many of you would know I attended a book launch on Saturday night for the Book of Inspiration for Women by Women and it was a wonderful evening!  The event was organised months ago and I decided to attend when I first heard about it.  In the last few weeks I decided that I was going to try a new eating regime which I had never tried before which is aimed at teaching your body to burn fat for fuel rather than carbohydrate which is what my body does.  I will tell you more about that in another blog, but basically it means that I have to majorly lower my carbohydrate intake which means no sugar, bread, cereals, or alcohol for 4 weeks and I was almost at the end of my second week on Saturday night.  Of course attending an event with a full 3 course meal and alcohol included was not the best plan, but the event was planned and paid for before I decided to try the new eating regime.  I must confess that I intended to attend the launch and not have anything that is not included in my current nutrition plan, but after I had been there for a while I made a decision that this was a night that I would never get back and that I should enjoy it to the full.  So I decided to eat the meal that I was served, including dessert……and I drank the wine and had a great time…..and I don’t feel the least little bit guilty.  Just as you shouldn’t if you make that choice every now and then.  Life is meant to be enjoyed!  Plan it, stick to your plan and then get back on track.  You will be able to stay on track much better if you know that you can still enjoy some treats from time to time.

Have a great week everyone!
